ESKOM Challenge #1 Towards a 10% reduction in residential energy consumption
Eskom Holdings SOC Limited invites proposals for smart technologies that will reduce domestic energy consumption (40 000 GWh) by 700 MW permanently.
The successful technology will:
# Be available as a standard smart-home device for incorporation into newly-designed domestic structures / homes in South Africa;
# Be able to be retro-fitted to existing domestic structures / homes;
# Not be against or compromise current legal requirements with regard to power consumption and/or household electrical installations;
# Be intrinsically safe;
# Rely on minimal maintenance support, and should be serviceable by electricians in possession of the normal domestic electrician’s qualification;
# Performance and lifespan of current appliances should not be compromised.
