Strategy: Value Innovation

RESEARCH
Research and preparation for workshop related to client industry. Research includes trends across industries, reviewing alternative industries, buyer groups and service offering. The existing business model will be mapped.

VALUE INNOVATION STRATEGY WORKSHOP
Value innovation is created in the region where an organisation’s actions favourably affect both its cost structure and its value proposition to buyers. Cost savings are made by eliminating and reducing the factors an industry competes on. Buyer value is lifted by raising and creating elements the industry has never offered. Over time, costs are reduced further as scale economies kick in due to the high sales volumes that superior value generates.

Value innovation occurs when organisations align innovation with cost, price and utility positions. Hence, instead of having a strong focus on competitors, the organisation will focus on reconstructing market spaces. Therefore the focus of value innovation is not merely innovation but rather a strategy that embraces all elements of the organisational activities. The aim is to create uncontested market space and make the competition irrelevant, creating new demand with a solid value-cost trade-off.

During this strategy workshop the following will be covered:

  • The reconstruction of market boundaries by looking across alternative industries as well as industry groups. In addition to this the buyers’ chain will be reviewed as well as complementary products and services. The functional appeal to buyers will be reviewed and trends will be highlighted and incorporated where making strategic sense
  • Various strategies of reaching beyond current demand will be covered
  • The strategic sequence is imperative and will be reviewed in detail in terms of buyer utility, price, cost and adoption
  • The organisational value curve will be drawn against competitors to review differentiation
  • Various factors will be reviewed in terms of reducing effort, increasing effort, eliminating them entirely or adding new factors
  • The value curve will be reviewed again after the above as a “to-be” strategy canvas
  • The business model will be reviewed and aligned
